Improving Product Reliability Strategies and Implementation
ISBN: 0-470-85449-9
available from many sources

Written for the mathematically challenged (algebra only)

The work is a "required text" at the grad school of the University of Maryland, regarded by many as the best reliability school in the world, and has a five star rating on Amazon.com.

Improving Product Reliability Main Topics:

> Building a Reliability Team (how to hire reliability engineers, technicians and gurus)
> Identifying road blocks and speed bumps that inhibit the implementation of the RE function and how to overcome these barriers.
> Doing "proactive" reliability before the customer has problems.
> Learning where quality and reliability problems enter the system.
> Defining the "suite" of proactive reliability tools.
> Selecting the right stress equipment
(HALT/HASS chambers).
> A list of reliability consultants, professional societies, training classes, environmental testing services, HALT fixtures, HALT chambers, software, seminars and conferences,
> How to eliminate faulty "no fault founds".

Environmental Stress Screening    Ted Kalal is a practicing reliability engineer who has    gained much of his understanding of reliability from    hands-on experience and from many great mentors. He    is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin (1981) in    Business Administration after completing much    preliminary study in mathematics, physics, and    electronics. He has held many positions as a contract    engineer and as a consultant, where he was able to    focus on design, quality, and reliability tasks. He has authored several papers on electronic circuitry, HALT, and holds a patent in the field of power electronics. With two partners, he started a small manufacturing company that makes hi-tech power supplies and other scientific apparatus for the bioresearch community. In 1999, he joined Teradyne, Inc. as a Reliability Manager. In 2005 he joined Flextronics as the Director of product Assurance & Reliability Engineering. He is presently a reliability consultant for global clients.

Mark Levin & Ted Kalal were collaborators at Teradyne, Inc. in Agoura Hills, CA where together they coauthored "IMPROVING PRODUCT RELIABILITY". The work is intended for engineering managers and company owners who see a need to: Lower Warranty Costs - Increase Customer Satisfaction - Speed Time to Market - Promote Re-Orders - Add Reliability as a "COMPETATIVE ADVANTAGE" as part of their product mix.
